Sebastian Mikael wasn’t looking for success when his “Beautiful Life” went viral in 2012. It just kind of happened. After further rising to prominence with his 2013 hit single “Last Night” featuring Wale and becoming a 2014 Soul Train Award nominee for “Best Independent R&B Soul Performance,” he decided to take a step back and refocus. Now Mikael is in control. “Now, I don’t have fear. I don’t second-guess myself. I’ve made sure that this time around, the music is all the way me. It’s raw. It’s who I am. I want people to be inspired. The music that I have now should have been my first introduction,” says Mikael. Mikael describes his latest projects, I C U U C ME PT I & PT II, as “emotional” touching upon his struggle, toxic relationships, the loss of his best friend and every high and low in between. “I C U U C ME PT I & II was created in my room in Boston. That’s how we molded the sound that I have now. It was all of us [fellow artists from Boston - Sean Wire, Najee and Milk] being inspired by each other.” The two-EP project was fueled by the undeniable earworm and fan favorite, “Time,” which now boasts nearly 7M views on the companion visual alone. “Time” was immediately met with applause as Billboard described the video as a “sultry visual” that is “completely inescapable for three minutes.” Mikael was later crowned as a Musician To Watch by Coveteur and an On The Verge Artist by iHeartRadio while also earning praise as a “contemporary R&B singer has a retro yet refreshing sound” (Okayplayer) who also “shakes and soothes your soul” (Rolling Out). The world can only continue to expect the same raw approach to music from Mikael as he prepares for new music led by the recently released “Exit” which went on to peak at #13 and #38 on Billboard’s Adult R&B and R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay charts, respectively.
